The film " A la Place du Coeur", is based on the book "If Beale Street Could Talk" by James Baldwin. This film follows the book almost exactly word by word. However there is a huge difference in that "If Beale Street Could Talk", Fonny, Tish and all of their family are represented as African American. Meanwhile, in "A la Place du Coeur", Fonny is the only one who is Black and the rest are white. This changes the whole perspective of the message. In the book, it was Tish and Fonny against the cruel racist society. In the film, however, it is Fonny against the cruel racist society.
